This was a very time consuming hunting lodge project that we completed several months ago. The open house was held on 3/15/08. The floor is Long Leaf Pine and all of the flooring material was milled from the trees cut to build the lodge. The entire floor was screwed down and all of the screw holes plugged with White Oak plugs. This is one of our favorite projects.
Why, thank you so much! We appreciate you watching this video and hope you will have time to view more of them. Please feel free to give us some feedback. We value your input greatly! Have a truly pleasant day!
Thank you so much! Perhaps you are a little bias considering the flooring project that we assisted you with, lol. We hope you are well and are looking forward to seeing you soon! Thanks, once again, for watching! It is always a pleasure!
These floors are 8″ wide Long Leaf Pine. In NC we have a wide range of humidity changes throughout the year. It was important to screw down all of the match ends for structural purposes while the floor is moving with seasonal changes. Secondary to this, by counter-sinking the screws in a 3/4″ hole and plugging the holes made for an interesting end product. Thanks for watching!!!
Why the floors are screwed down?
This stain is a mixture of several different “Olympic” stain colors. There are three coats of an oil modified polyurethane over the floor. Thanks for watching!
what kind of stain did you use…did you condition it first..is there poly on them? thanks
This was a desired affect by the lodge owners. It is called crowning, and is most often associated with plank floors. Normally, crowning is caused by an imbalance in internal humidity and moisture control. This floor was allowed to crown to give it a more rustic feel to support the decor. Thanks for watching.
how come the floor is not flat at the point of entry?
This really shows true craftsmanship which seems to get lost today!
This is a beautiful lodge and beautiful floors.
the long planks used are very impressive. Great job and great video.
