High Quality: www.youtube.com We had to do a project for Mrs. Goldman’s class which involved sorting 10 marbles under two minutes. We picked the following three types of marbles to sort: a slightly pink marble, a purple marble, and a totally black marble. Sponsored by Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Description of how the sorter works: First, you drop the marbles into the hopper which is a bottle cut in half that we decided to use. Then, the marbles roll down the chute and stop by hitting the wall and each other. On the very bottom marble, there is a lamp and a phototransistor which sense the resistance and the amount of light that passes through the marble. That intensity determines the “color” of the marble. After the color has been sensed, the bin moves either left or right, or just stays in place. After the bin is in the right position, we have a motor which has a metal pole attached to it which pushes the marble from the bottom of the chute out into the bin. And that’s how it works! that’s cool, because that’s exactly what we DIDN’T do…

We should have used the switches instead of timers… but oh well…

We’re working on this right now. What we did is have our bins move, and have a little paddle where each bin was and a limit switch at the very end. It would move to the limit switch and then until the second time the button is hit. That way we know exactly where we ware at the very beginning.

lucky we had to build a hopper and use only fischer parts… u had it easy they had to be just dumped in and had to sort = but mine worked. only 2 motors a switch and light and sencor. xPP vid is on my pro watch it its the first one. Dissregard the blue one that read as green.. =

ummm…use the top of a two gallon bottle for the hopper and make sure your track is good cause our marbles kept falling off the track.

yeah, if you’re doing a moving bin like i did, i advice you to use two switches (left and right) because i used regular timers which really screwed me up at timing.

    good luck
